This one me a while. Most of the time was spent after I had made my second guess. I had trouble figuring out what the missing letter was and how to arrange the letters I already had.

This was my first 1.2.2 in over a month. The last time I started a game with 1.2.2 was on Sep 19. This was only my eighth game that began with 1.2.2 which means that it happens on average about once every 31 days.

This is also my last game for October. I completed all my games in October in 3, 4, or 5 guesses. I completed a new personal monthly best 14 games in 3 guesses. I finished 9 games in 4 guesses and 8 games in 5 guesses. Neither of those are monthly record highs or lows.

I had one 5G and three 0Y games in October. One of the 0Y games took me 4 guesses but the other two and the 5G game I finished in 3 guesses.

My average score for October was 3.83. That is a new monthly record low.

The split between games that took 3 and 5 guesses to complete was at +3 in favor of games that took 3 guesses to complete, at the end of September. It is now, at the end of October, at +10 in favor of games that took 3 guesses to complete.

This took a little over 5 minutes. It took me a few minutes to figure out what my options were after my second guess. WALTZ was the first and only word that occurred to me.

I started with 0.1.4 for the sixth time in the past eight games.

This is my 250th game of Wordle. My average score is 4.10 but if I exclude losses then it is 4.05. That is the lowest cumulative average score I have ever had.

The dominance of games that take 4 guesses to complete continues but it has diminished a bit. Considering that my average score has dropped over the course of the last 25 games that means that I have had completed more games in 3 guesses than 4 in that stretch.

I completed all of the last 25 games in 3, 4, or 5 guesses. I finished 11 of the past 25 games in 3 guesses, 7 in 4 guesses, and 7 in 5 guesses.

I had one 5G and two 0Y games in the past 25 games. All three of those came in games that it took me 3 guesses to complete.

The current split between 3 and 5 guess games is currently +9 in favor of 3 guess games and that is the highest it has ever been.

This took 10 minutes or so. I wanted my second guess to include the three vowels that I had not tried yet in my first guess but I had trouble coming up with one that fit. I did not consult my list of start words. I also considered making CARAT my fourth guess but I thought of CARRY first and decided to go with that because I thought of it first.

Yesterday I also started with 0.1.4 and finished the game in four guesses. Four of the last five games have started with 0.1.4 which is extremely common but doesn’t usually occur that frequently.

This is the first time since Sep 30 that I have started with 0.1.4 and finished in 3 guesses. This is my 10th three this month and 12th one this streak. The monthly total is a new record and there is still several days left in the month. The total for the streak ties my second highest for a streak. The other streak in which I had 12 threes lasted 42 games and ran from Mar 17 to Apr 27. So far my current streak has lasted 34 games.

My second guess came from my list of start words. It was one of two words that fit. I think I got lucky that I found the U and the M early on. I didn’t get so lucky with guessing the first letter in the word. I thought about trying YUMMY as my third guess but MUMMY didn’t occur to me until after my fourth guess.

This is my first 5 since Oct 14 and ends my 8-game run of games that I finished in 3 or 4 guesses. My average number of guesses for the month and the current streak both stand at exactly 3.91.

Almost one-third of the time (8/27) that I start with 0.0.5 I finish the game in 3 guesses. I have yet to start a game with 0.0.5 and lose.

This one took me a little while. I really had trouble figuring out what my third guess should be but my second guess also didn’t exactly leap out at me. My list of start words didn’t help me today.

My second 0Y of the month and the streak, and my 13th one overall. I have had at least one every month from April through October.

I am currently in the midst of a run of 6 games in which I have finished in 3 or 4 guesses. My record is 9 consecutive games. That has happened just once before, from May 23 to 31. Prior to my current run I had a run of games in which it took me 5 guesses in 5 out of 6 games.

My previous streak ended exactly a month ago today and lasted just 3 games. I am 30 games into my current streak.

I consulted my list of start words when deciding what my second guess should be but SHINE wasn’t on my list. It is now. I found the answer kind of by chance. I typed it in without even thinking that I was typing a real word. I put E at the beginning. I put X next as a place holder. I typed I next because it had to there. I ended the word with ST because it seemed like a plausible ending. It was only then that I realized I had typed a possible answer which turned out to be the correct answer.

I have started with 0.0.5 and finished in three guesses before, seven times to be precise, but the previous time was over two months ago on Aug 3.

I opened with 1.1.3 for the first time this streak. The last time I opened with 1.1.3 was almost a month ago, near the end of the prior streak.

I finished the game in 4 which happens roughly half the time (13/25) when I score a 1.1.3 with my first guess.

I considered making COUCH for my second guess but then I thought of COUTH. Playing COUCH would not only have been a very risky play but as it turns out would not have been good risk to take. I think CATCH was the only possible answer after trying COUTH.

I’m 25 games into my current streak. My average score for this streak is exactly 4. The distribution of scores is symmetrical: (3x7) + (4x11) + (5x7) / 25 = 4. It has been exactly one week since my last 4 and today was the first time in almost two weeks (13 days) since I last started with 1.0.4. All but two of the 5s in this streak happened in the last seven days.

That was a little nerve wracking even though it probably only took me 5 to 10 minutes. I only had two letters figured out until my final guess. Plus I had to try the R in all the different positions until I finally got it right.

I don’t know if I’ve ever had that many yellow tiles and they were all the same letter.

This is the third game in a row that it has taken me 5 guesses to get the right answer. It is the fifth time time in the last six games that it has taken me 5 guesses. It is the sixth time this month and seventh time in my current streak that it has taken me 5 guesses.

This is the second consecutive day that I have started with 0.2.3 and that it has taken me 5 guesses. That’s the first time that has happened on consecutive days. Four of my past five games have taken 5 guesses. Five of my past seven games have started with 0.2.3.

This one didn’t take me forever but it was not easy. I thought I had it on the fourth guess. I looked in my list of start words for something to play on my second guess but there was nothing that fit the criteria. I wanted something that had two vowels but PICKY was the only word that I could think of that fit. SONIC didn’t occur to me until after I played PICKY.

Three of my past four games have taken 5 guesses. Four of my past six games have started with 0.2.3. My average for this streak is creeping up toward 4. I wish it was lower but I’m happy that the streak is still going.

My second guess came from my list of start words. There was just one other word that fit my criteria but I liked OPERA better. My third guess was the first word that occurred to me and a bit of a shot in the dark, but it worked. My fourth guess was a good one but not the right word.

This makes the second consecutive day that I started with 0.1.4 and it took me 5 guesses to finish the game. That also happened on Apr 20-21, Jul 2-3, and Jul 36-27. I have never had that happen on three consecutive days.

My longest streak of starting with 0.1.4 lasted 5 days and occurred on May 17-21. My longest streak of games that lasted 5 guesses was also 5 days and occurred on Jul 2-6.

This one took me about 10-15 minutes. It took me 5 or more words to figure out what to play for each of my second and third guesses.

I checked my start word list when I was trying to figure out what my second guess should be. There was nothing on the list that fit the criteria for the second word.

It looks like this one gave a lot of people a lot of trouble. DIVAN was a lucky guess. If I had guessed something like HANDY then I would have had 4 green tiles but there would have been quite a few possibilities going forward. I was intent on making sure that my second guess had more than one vowel so that didn’t happen. It was a good call and I will try to remember it.
