This one me a while. Most of the time was spent after I had made my second guess. I had trouble figuring out what the missing letter was and how to arrange the letters I already had.

This was my first 1.2.2 in over a month. The last time I started a game with 1.2.2 was on Sep 19. This was only my eighth game that began with 1.2.2 which means that it happens on average about once every 31 days.

This is also my last game for October. I completed all my games in October in 3, 4, or 5 guesses. I completed a new personal monthly best 14 games in 3 guesses. I finished 9 games in 4 guesses and 8 games in 5 guesses. Neither of those are monthly record highs or lows.

I had one 5G and three 0Y games in October. One of the 0Y games took me 4 guesses but the other two and the 5G game I finished in 3 guesses.

My average score for October was 3.83. That is a new monthly record low.

The split between games that took 3 and 5 guesses to complete was at +3 in favor of games that took 3 guesses to complete, at the end of September. It is now, at the end of October, at +10 in favor of games that took 3 guesses to complete.

There’s a cross in my results. It probably wouldn’t be there if I had not goofed and put T in the same place in my second guess as it was in my first guess. I thought INSTAL had two Ls. I figured it was going to tell me that was an invalid word so I didn’t bother to check about the placement of letters.

I knew my third guess couldn’t be the answer because it was the answer two days ago. It did fit and did help me solve the puzzle fairly quickly.

That’s the last game for October. My average score for October is 4.06 which is my best monthly score to date. My overall average score is 4.1 which is down slightly from 4.12 at the end of September.

I finished 10 games in three guesses which is a new high mark for me. I finished 12 games in four guesses which ties the high mark that I reached in September. I finished 6 games in five guesses which is the least number of five guess games that I have had in a month so far. I finished 3 games in six guesses which is the same as in September and the current record.

I had two 6G games but no 0Y games in October. This is the first full month that I have not had a 0Y game.

I did not set any new high or low records for the number of games I finished in 3 or 4 guesses. I finished one game in 2 guesses and one in 7 guesses. It took me 6 guesses to finish four of my games which is a new monthly high.

This took a little over 5 minutes. It took me a few minutes to figure out what my options were after my second guess. WALTZ was the first and only word that occurred to me.

I started with 0.1.4 for the sixth time in the past eight games.

This is my 250th game of Wordle. My average score is 4.10 but if I exclude losses then it is 4.05. That is the lowest cumulative average score I have ever had.

The dominance of games that take 4 guesses to complete continues but it has diminished a bit. Considering that my average score has dropped over the course of the last 25 games that means that I have had completed more games in 3 guesses than 4 in that stretch.

I completed all of the last 25 games in 3, 4, or 5 guesses. I finished 11 of the past 25 games in 3 guesses, 7 in 4 guesses, and 7 in 5 guesses.

I had one 5G and two 0Y games in the past 25 games. All three of those came in games that it took me 3 guesses to complete.

The current split between 3 and 5 guess games is currently +9 in favor of 3 guess games and that is the highest it has ever been.

This took 10 minutes or so. I wanted my second guess to include the three vowels that I had not tried yet in my first guess but I had trouble coming up with one that fit. I did not consult my list of start words. I also considered making CARAT my fourth guess but I thought of CARRY first and decided to go with that because I thought of it first.

Yesterday I also started with 0.1.4 and finished the game in four guesses. Four of the last five games have started with 0.1.4 which is extremely common but doesn’t usually occur that frequently.

I don’t know what I was thinking when I made my second guess but it was not a good guess. There were no vowels other than E and one of them was in the same place I had tried E on my first guess. I was stunned when my third guess turned out to be the right answer. I played with the letters for at least 10 minutes when I finally decided to try GERMAN. I had not found anything else that fit.

This is my first 0.4.2 in the 94 games I have played. This makes 5 games in a row without a green tile on my first guess. My record is 6 games in a row which happened earlier this month. I have only seen green tiles on my first guess in 2 of the past 15 games which is much lower than my average which is around 1/3 of the time.

I typed it in without even thinking that I was typing a real word. I put E at the beginning. I put X next as a place holder. I typed I next because it had to there. I ended the word with ST because it seemed like a plausible ending. It was only then that I realized I had typed a possible answer which turned out to be the correct answer.

I knew my third guess couldn’t be the right answer but I tried it anyway. It turned out to be a good call. Maybe I could have finished this one in four but OUTLAWS didn’t occur to me until after I tried OUTLAYS.

I wasn’t sure about my second or third guesses but they both seem to have paid off. Both had a letter repeated but both turned out to be good guesses. I considered all three words that were my fourth, fifth, and six guesses before I made my fourth guess. I decided to try them in the order that they occurred to me.

This the first time that I have started with 0.3.4 and that it took me 6 guesses to finish the game. It is also the first time that it took me 6 guesses when my first guess included 3 of the letters that were in the answer.

I considered making COUCH for my second guess but then I thought of COUTH. Playing COUCH would not only have been a very risky play but as it turns out would not have been good risk to take. I think CATCH was the only possible answer after trying COUTH.

I’m 25 games into my current streak. My average score for this streak is exactly 4. The distribution of scores is symmetrical: (3x7) + (4x11) + (5x7) / 25 = 4. It has been exactly one week since my last 4 and today was the first time in almost two weeks (13 days) since I last started with 1.0.4. All but two of the 5s in this streak happened in the last seven days.

I usually (67/75) get at least one letter on the first guess. Usually (50/75) I don’t get any green tiles on my first guess. It is pretty rare (4/75) that I get more than one green tile on my first guess. I have never got more than 2 green tiles on my first guess. It isn’t unusual (20/75) for me to get 3 letters on my first guess. It is unusual (3/75) for me to get 4 letters on my first guess. I have never got 5 or 6 letters on my first guess.

It looks like this one gave a lot of people a lot of trouble. DIVAN was a lucky guess. If I had guessed something like HANDY then I would have had 4 green tiles but there would have been quite a few possibilities going forward. I was intent on making sure that my second guess had more than one vowel so that didn’t happen. It was a good call and I will try to remember it.

My second guess came from my list of previously used start words. It made it clear that there was only one vowel in the correct answer. I figured that there had to be more than one I in the correct answer and thought that it might end with LY. LIVIDLY was the first word that I came up with that fit. I wasn’t sure that it was a word but I tried it anyway. I was stunned to see that it was the right answer. There probably were other possibilities but I’m not sure what they are.

I have now played 75 games of Septle or 7-letter wordle. I have finished 57/75 games in 3 (28) or 4 (29) guesses. All but 7 games (9.5%) took 3, 4, or 5 guesses. I have yet to guess the correct answer on my first guess. I have finished 2 games on my second guess, 3 on my sixth guess, and 2 on my 7th guess. I have yet to lose a game or have a game take 8 guesses.

I have only once in 75 games not guessed a single correct letter on my first guess. Exactly one-third of the time (25/75) I get three correct letters on my first guess although usually those are yellow letters. I have guessed 4 correct letters on my first guess 28 percent (21/75) of the time but only twice have I guessed 5 letters correctly on my first guess and never more than that.
