There were probably other directions I could have gone in after my third guess. I’m very happy that my fourth guess paid off but looking back on it now it feels like I was taking a very big risk. I really would have been kicking myself if the result of my fourth guess turned out the same as the results of my second and third guesses.
I checked after the fact and my first four guesses have all been the answer in the past.
This is the 12th time that I have got 3 guesses into a game and only found 1 letter from the answer. This is the third time it has happened this year and the first time it has happened during my current winning streak.
For the first time since Sep 2023 there is a tie (108 games each) between the two second most common start / finish combinations that I have had, 0.1.4 / 5 guesses and 0.2.3 / 4 guesses. The latter had been in the lead since late Sep 2023. The high mark for 0.2.3 / 4 guesses got to as much as 11 games ahead of the competition during that run. Prior to that there was a long stretch where 0.1.4 / 5 guesses was in the lead with the high water mark being 7 games ahead as well as times where it remained very close to or exactly dead even, with 0.2.3 / 4 guesses occasionally taking the lead but not in a big way. I could go into greater detail but I think I’ve spent enough time and words on this.
