This is the first time this month that I have started a game with 2.0.3. This is the third month in a row that I have started at least one game with 2.0.3. I have started at least one game with 2.0.3 in 39 of the past 53 months.

This is the first time this month and second month in a row that I have started at least one game with 2.0.3 and finished it in 4 guesses. This is the 14th time that I have started a game with 2.0.3 and finished it in 4 guesses.

This is the 11th 0Y game during my current winning streak. This ties the number of 0Y games during my 17th winning streak (133 games). The only winning streaks in which I have had more 0Y games than during my current streak are the three that lasted over 200 games each.

Three of the four words I played today are words that I have never played in the past. WEIGH is the only one that I have played before and this is the seventh time I have tried it. It was the answer the fifth time I played it, earlier this year, on 02/03/26.

This game took as long as it did for a couple reasons. First, I wanted my second guess to have just one vowel and five distinct letters. I probably spent a couple minutes looking for such a word, without success. I wound up settling for LAUGH.

Second, I thought of LEGAL almost immediately after my second guess but I would have preferred a word that didn’t have any letters repeated. I spent a couple minutes or more looking for such a word but eventually gave up and gave LEGAL a try. According to Wordlebot it was the only possible word left that I could play.

This game ends my streak of games that I started with 0.0.5 at four games. No new record. I will just have to settle for having put together two such streaks.

This is the first time this month that I have started a game with 0.1.4 and finished it in 3 guesses. I have started at least one game with 0.1.4 and finished it in 3 guesses in 48 of the past 53 months.

BUTTE came to mind almost immediately after my third guess but I probably spent more than a minute trying to think of other words before giving it a try.

This is the fourth consecutive game I have started with 0.0.5. This is the second time I have started four consecutive games with 0.0.5. I have never started more than four consecutive games with 0.0.5. The first time I started four consecutive games with 0.0.5 was at the end of Sep 2025.

This is the second time I have had a 0Y game that consisted of 8 green and 12 black letters. The first time this happened was 10/03/22. I also started that game with 0.0.5 but the placement of green and black letters in that game was different.

I finally decided to pay for the NYT games subscription.

Wordlebot didn’t like my first guess. It said my second guess was a good one but they favored a word that had two vowels, SLATE. According to them BUTTE was the only possible answer after my third guess.

I have to say that I think their analyses to be a mixed bag. I don’t understand the why they put such weight on figuring out what vowels are in the solution. There are only five vowels. There are 21 consonants to sort through while searching for the solution. I think it makes more sense to focus on the consonants first. The vowels are secondary in my mind.

I wasn’t CRAZY about starting the way I did but in all worked out in the end. I only saw one possible answer after my third guess.

This is the second time that STOUT has been the answer. The first time that STOUT was the answer was in Jun 2021, before I started playing. This is the second repeat answer this month. I expect that there will be at least one more before the end of July.

This is the first time this month, seventh time this year, and 23rd time overall that I have had nothing but black letters in my first two guesses. The last time it happened was exactly two months ago, the last game of my previous winning streak. I still have yet to lose a game that begins in this manner.
