I don’t know why it took me so long to come up with my second guess. It was also my second guess three days ago.

I usually don’t try words with just four different letters on my second guess but considering the placement of the L and the fact that it was green I felt the need to determine if there was a second L in the answer ASAP.

The possibilities seemed kind of limited after my third guess and yet it still took me at least a few minutes to figure out what to play next.

I considered making CLOAK my third guess but decided I liked PLANT better. I considered making ALLOW my fourth guess but decided to go with CLOAK because I thought of it first and because it had five different letters. I didn’t think of ALLOY until after my fifth guess.

My third guess was a lucky one even if it wasn’t the answer. I almost went with BASIC for my fourth guess but then I thought of BASIS and decided to go with that. I thought that BASIC might have been the answer in the past. They have started to rerun answers but so far they have only had two or three reruns per month and there was one just a few days ago so I decided to go with BASIS. I checked after the fact and I was wrong about BASIC having been the answer in the past.

I considered playing CHILL as early as my second guess. I doubt that I would have finished in three if I had but it probably wouldn’t have have taken me six.

This is the fourth time that I have finished the first game of the month in 6 guesses. The previous times this happened were 06/01/22, 01/01/25, and 04/01/25. I hope this month is more like Jun 2022 than it is the other two months. I finished all games successfully in Jun 2022 and I finished a game in one guess that month. Neither of those things is true about the other two months.

I wasn’t so sure about starting with VODKA but it all worked out in the end.

This is my second 12345 game this year. My last one occurred on 02/04/26 and also took 4:05 to complete. Overall this is my 21st such game. This is the first time I’ve ended a month with a 12345 game.

This is the 10th time this month that I have finished a game 5 guesses. This the fourth time I have managed this feat.

This is the 125th time that I have started a game with 0.1.4 and finished it in 5 guesses. This is the 125th time that my next to last guess has been 4.0.1 and that I have finished the game in 5 guesses.

That does it for the month of May. I finished the month with an average score 4.29, not my worst ever but that’s pretty high for me. This is the fifth consecutive month that my average score has been over 4 guesses per game.

This is the second time that I have had an average score of 4 or more guesses per game in five consecutive months. The last time this happened was Jul to Nov 2023 but in that stretch I had an average score of exactly 4 one month and 4.03 another month. This time around my lowest monthly average score was 4.19.

No surprise here, given what I just pointed out, but for the fifth month in a row my +/- 4 score is negative. My cumulative score was +6 at the end of 2025. It is now -25.

A week into this month it looked like I was on pace to finish 20 games in 5 guesses. I only made it to 10 games in 5 guesses. Five times in seven days was a fluke. Ten times in 31 days was on the high side but not a fluke. Overall I usually finish about 7 games per month in 5 guesses.
