I wasn’t sure that BOUGE was an English word but I tried it anyway because it had three vowels. I was stunned to see how close it brought me to the right answer.

This one took me more guesses than I wanted. I overlooked the fact that CLOAKS couldn’t be the right answer but I guessed ALLOTS understanding that it couldn’t be the right answer.

I was ASTOUNDed to see that my first guess only included one letter that was in the correct answer. Maybe I shouldn't have been. It happens about 12 percent of the time. I went back to my list of start words to find a word that would be a good second guess. That tactic seems to have paid off.

I wasn’t really expecting my third guess to be the answer but it was the first word I came up with that fit.

I have guessed the correct answer in 13 of the past 14 games in 3 or 4 guesses. My overall average is 3.86 guesses per game across 71 games. That seems crazy.

This one was not quick. It took me a while to go from my first guess to my second and from my second to my third. Third to fourth didn’t take long. I got lucky to some degree with this one. CLASSIC could have been a disastrous guess. I could have guessed SIGNALS as my third guess but that didn’t occur to me until after the fact.

I was thinking of shifting the EA combination one space over to the left for my second guess but then changed my mind. I didn’t have a word in mind for the second guess, that would have kept them together, but it looks like I might have finished the game in fewer guesses if I had.

This was also a fast game. I think my second guess was a good one it just wasn’t the right word.

This is just the third time in 69 games that I’ve gotten 3 green tiles on the first guess. I’ve never gotten more than 3 on the first guess.

My average for the month is 4 and my overall average is 3.88. I had one 0Y (yellow free game), my first, and two 7G games this month.

My average for September (4.23) was worse than both my average for August (4.16) and my overall average (4.01). The good news is that my streak is still going and I have only been pushed to the limit once so far. Eighty-seven percent (24/30) of my games this month were finished in 5 or fewer guesses. Sixty-three percent (17/30) of my games were finished in 4 or fewer guesses.

Wordle 2022-09

I had three fails this month. In that way it was my worst calendar month since I started playing this game. I finished the month with my best monthly average (3.85) without counting fails. My monthly average including fails (4.07) was also pretty good. I also finished the month with more 4-guess games and less 5-guess games than in any other calendar month. I know there’s an element of luck in this game but I’m still pleased to see how the month wound down considering how it was looking on the 20th.
